On the morning of September 13, the 135 meter long self-propelled tanker barge Mi-Deseo (MMSI: 244670658) allided with a bridge on the Gent-Terneuzen Canal near Sluiskil, Netherlands. The Mi-Deseo was sailing from Werkendam when it’s wheelhouse struck the the underside of the Sluiskil Bridge. The Mi-Deseo wheelhouse was severely damaged, but there were no injuries on board. Reports state the bridge was undamaged from the incident. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

On July 19, the 122 meter long cargo vessel Myrte ran aground off Sluiskil, Netherlands. The Myrte was en route to Ghent from Tornio when it veered off course on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.  Tugs were dispatched and pulled the Myrte free a short time later. The Myrte proceeded to Ghent where it berthed and inspected for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
