The 225 meter long bulk carrier Loreto ran aground in the Strait of Magellan near Punta Arenas, Chile. The Loreto developed a small list to starboard, but was later refloated by the following day.  The Loreto proceeded to a nearby anchorage where the vessel to be inspected for damage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 614 dwt trawler Number one Insung sank between New Zealand and Antarctica. Nearby vessels were able to rescue 20 crewmen of the 42 onboard. No reports to the cause of the sinking. Weather has been ruled out with light winds and 1 meter waves.
