The fishing vessel Pastor Carrillo caught fire off Almeria, Spain. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room. The three crew on board were rescued by another fishing vessel, Cañada Soriano.  No reports of injuries. Reports state the fire was later extinguished, but the fishing vessel was heavily damaged and later sank before it could be towed back to port.

The 106 meter long, 6250 dwt cargo vessel Kelly C ran aground  in the Eo near the port of Ribadeo, Spain. The Kelly C was departing from Ribadeo when it ran aground on a sandbank. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Reports state the Eo Estuary is known to be difficult to navigate due to silting which is the most likely cause of the grounding.

The 48 meter long, 468 fishing vessel Feng Shun No. 3 ran aground off Gran Canaria Island, Canary Islands, Spain. The vessel went hard aground causing a starboard list.  The crew of the Feng Shun No. 3 abandoned ship into the vessel’s two life rafts fearing that the fishing boat would heel over. Authorities were alerted and multiple vessels along with a helicopter were dispatched to scene.  The 37 crew in the life rafts were safely rescued by a rescue boat.  The master and chief engineer who had remained on board the Feng Shun, was hoisted to safety by the helicopter. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
