The crew of the 315 dwt offshore crew vessel Esnaad 715 abandoned ship in the Bay of Biscay off La Coruna, Spain.  The crew alerted the Spanish MRCC that the vessel was in danger of sinking after encountering 10 meter waves.  A helicopter was dispatched to the scene and was able to hoist the 5 crewmen to safety.  No reports of injuries.  Reports state the vessel was still afloat.

The 24 meter long fishing vessel Nuevo Rio Verde sank off the Formigues Islands, Spain.  The trawler had struck a rock off the coast causing massive water ingress.  The vessel’s pumps could not stop the flooding and the Nuevo Rio Verde sank by the stern.  The vessel’s fuel tank was punctured releasing a large oil slick around 20,000 square meters in size.  Local authorities responded with dispatching response teams to the scene.  A special diver team along with a salvage firm to contain any remaining fuel on board and refloat the vessel.  All seven crewmen from the Nuevo Rio Verde were safely rescued.

The 126 meter long, 7712 dwt freighter Anna went aground in Ferrol Bay near San Cristovo, Spain.  The Anna was entering the bay when it suffered engine failure and drifted aground.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   The Anna was refloated a few hours later by aid of two tugs during the next high tide.  The Anna was en route to Ferrol from Esbjerg, Denmark.
