Elite Disabled

The 149 meter long, 11243 dwt container ship Elite became disabled in the Bay of Biscay after the vessel suffered a major engine breakdown.   Attempts by the crew to repair the engine failed and a tug was requested to take the Elite under tow to a French port to undergo repairs.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Tabar Sinks

The 12 meter long fishing vessel Tabar sank after being struck by the 88 meter long, 3622 dwt freighter Estesky off La Coruna, Spain.   The Tabar was struck at the stern of the vessel where the four crew were cleaning the catch.  All the men were thrown into the water as the Tabar quickly went down.   A nearby yacht who witness the accident sent out a distress signal to authorities then was able to rescue one of the crewmen.   Two other crew were rescued by another nearby vessel.   One crewman was listed as missing.    Reports state the visibility at the time was limited to just 15 to 20 meters.   Two crewmen were injured in the collision.   No reports of injury or damage on the freighter Estesky.   Authorities are continuing search operations for the missing man.

Mein Schiff 2

The 264 meter long, 6500 dwt passenger ship Mein Schiff 2 allided with a container crane while attempting to dock at Cadiz, Spain.   The Mein Schiff 2 was pushed by a strong wind gust into the crane damaging several balcony cabins and several railings.   Further attempts to dock were aborted and the passenger ship continued on to the next scheduled port of Malaga.   No one was injured in the incident.   Passengers who had their cabin damage were given different accommodations.    The Mein Schiff 2 was on a twelve day cruise around western Europe.
