The 180 meter long, 40441 dwt tanker Rinella M ran aground in the Bay of Kastela off Split, Croatia.  The Rinella M had recently completed unloading its cargo from Gaeta at the terminal in Solin when strong winds battered against the tanker.  As the winds increased, the Rinella M torn away from its mooring and drifted away from its berth.  With the crew unable to start the engines, the Rinella M was pushed by the wind across the bay onto the shallow rocks off the islet of Barbarinac.

Authorities arrived on scene and found all 22 crew on board were safe. No reports of injuries.  A response team was dispatched with divers to inspect the hull for damage. No signs of pollution being released.
