The 90 meter long, 4145 dwt freighter Nemuna went aground near Fårö, Sweden.  The Nemuna suffered damage to its bow with a ballast tank holed.   The Coast Guard responded finding the vessel in stable condition and firmly aground.   Booms were deployed around the vessel to prevent any of the 81 tons of diesel and 7.5 tons of lubricating oil being released.  Divers inspected the hull and the Coast Guard approved the Nemuna to be refloated.  No reports of injuries.

Stena Danica

The 155 meter long, 2950 dwt ferry Stena Danica became disabled at Gothenburg, Sweden.  The ferry suffered a power blackout while approaching the quay in the harbour.   To avoid alliding with the quay, the Stena Danica dropped its anchors.  Three tugs arrived and assisted the ferry to its berth.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.  The vessel cancelled the following scheduled voyage.  This is the second reported power failure on the vessel in the last seven days.

The Swedish Coast Guard towed the disabled freighter Phantom to Oskarshamn.   The Freighter is now moored at a quay where operations to stabilize the vessel will continue.   Plans to remove the deck cargo and bilge pumping should correct the severe list.   A salvage company has been contracted to handle further operations.
