On July 16, the 74 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Freja ran ashore in the Jungfru Sound  at  Ekerö, Sweden. The Freja had suffered engine problems as it approached the quay at Ekerö . Without power the ferry was unable to maneuver and ran onto the shoreline. Authorities were alerted and one passenger was treated for minor injuries.  The Freja sustained some damage and a small amount of oil was released into the water. Authorities placed the booms around the vessel to prevent any further pollution.  The Freja was reloated several hours later.  The incident is under investigation.

The 124 meter long cement carrier Sunnanvik ran aground near Holmsund off Lillbådans Lighthouse, Sweden. The Sunnanvik was headed to Umea from Slite when it ran hard aground  with 2500 tons of cement on board. The hull sustained damage with one ballast tank holed and suffered some water ingress. No reports of injuries to the 17 crew on board or pollution released. Authorities launched a Coastguard vessel to monitor the situation. Reports state multiple tugs were requested to aid in refloating the Sunnanvik.

The 138 meter long, 9002 dwt container ship Conmar Island became disabled off Norrkoping, Sweden. The Conmar Island was proceeding to a berth when it was pushed into a buoy and the vessel’s propeller got entangled in the buoy anchor chain.  The boxship dropped anchor until it was freed a sort time later by the aid of two tugs. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
