The 50 meter long tanker-barge Conzelo sank in early morning hours while moored in the outer harbor in Hansweert, Zeeland, Netherlands.  The master with his two sons on board were able to abandon ship in time.   One son was still asleep and had to leap into the water before the Conzelo went down.   No one was injured.   The vessel was loaded with cement and now rests 9 meters below water.  Authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.   The vessel does not block or hinder traffic in the harbour.

Tanker-Barge Waldhof sinks

The tanker is lying on its side

The 330 foot tanker (barge) Waldhof capsized and sank on the Rhine river close to the Lorelei Rock between Koblenz and St. Goarshausen, Germany. The barge was carrying 2,400 tons of sulfuric acid from Ludwigshafen, Germany to Antwerp, Belgium. Two of the 4 crewmen onboard were pulled from the river and are in good shape. There is no indication why the vessel capsized. Reports state there was some concern about acid leaking from the tanker, but officals stated the vessel’s double-hull has remained intact and there were no leaks.
