The 382 foot long tanker-barge DBL 106 ran aground near Kodiak, Alaska.  The tanker-barge,  loaded with an undisclosed amount of fuel, was being towed by the 124 foot long, 469 dwt tug Bismarck Sea when it ran aground 2 miles from Kodiak.  The barge was successfully refloated and was taken to an anchorage where it could be inspected.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution.  A boom will be placed around the DBL 106 to contain any potential pollution. The Coast Guard have dispatched inspection personnel to the scene while aircraft will conduct an overflight as part of the assessment.

Flag Gangos 1

The 185 meter long bulk carrier Flag Gangos collided with the tanker barge Web 235 and the 229 meter long tanker Pamisos on the Mississippi River near Gretna, Louisiana.  The Flag Gangos had lost power and steering and struck the Web 235 as it was offloading fuel oil at an oil terminal.  The Web 235 broke free causing some fuel oil to be spilled into the river.  The Pamisos was struck near the stern sustaining some hull damage. The Flag Ganos suffered a large hole in its bow while the  Web 235 sustained hull damage.  No reports of injuries.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The 85 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Leila caught fire on the Mittelland Canal near Gehlenbeck, Germany.   The Leila was loaded with 1200 tons of heating oil from Essen to Hannover when the two crew on board spotted smoke coming from the crew quarters.  The crew found the room was filled with smoke and flames appearing behind the refrigerator.  The crew attempted to extinguish the fire, but the fire quickly grew out of control.   The two men escaped to the forepeak as the fire consumed the crew quarters, engine room and wheelhouse.  The local fire brigade arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the blaze.  No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.   Damage to the Leila was reported to be over 600000 €, but the cargo was undamaged and will be unloaded.
