The 83 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Marina had a head-on collision with another self-propelled barge allided with pilings on the Mittelland Canal near Kalkriese, Germany.   The helmsman had lost control of the vessel after suffering a health problem.  The Marina veered and struck the other vessel before alliding with a piling.   Both vessels suffered damage with some oil pollution allowed to leak out into the canal.   The helmsman was taken to hospital suffering several injuries.   Reports state the damage will be over several thousands of euros.

Piz Everest

Piz Everest

The 102 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Piz Everest became disabled on the Maas River near Botlek Rotterdam, Netherlands.   The Piz Everest suffered water ingress in the engine room and requested assistance.  Two vessels from the port authority were dispatched with pumps.   The pumps were able to keep the water ingress under control and the Piz Everest was towed to AVR Botlek.   No reports of injuries.

Christina Explodes

Christina Explodes

The 86 meter long self-propelled tanker barge Christina suffered an explosion while moored at the Kuwait Petroleum Europort in Rotterdam, Netherlands.  The explosion occurred in the no. 1 tank which was being loaded with benzene.   The explosion severely damaged the hull, the foreship and the deck house.   Luckily, no one was injured with the two crew and the master’s wife and children on board.   A resulting fire from the explosion was quickly extinguished.   No reports of any pollution being released.
