The 144 meter long, 17095 dwt tanker Chem Norma ran aground on the St. Lawrence River near Montreal, Quebec. The Chem Norma had departed from Montreal headed for Sarnia when it grounded near Morrisburg, Ontario.  The tanker had suffered steering failure and grounded just outside the navigation channel.  Authorities were contacted and inspected the vessel for damage. A survey found no water ingress or pollution released. Reports state the Chem Norma will be refloated assisted by tugs if necessary.  No reports of injuries.

The fishing vessel Adriana M caught fire south of Chacahua Bay, Oaxaca, Mexico.  The fire started during the early morning hours and quickly spread through the vessel’s superstructure. The 24 crew on board the Adriana M sent out a distress call and shot flares before escaping into life rafts. As the fire consumed the tuna boat, the 183 meter long tanker Centenario headed to the scene.  The tanker rescued all 24 crew along with 2 dogs from the Adriana M. and proceeded to Salina Cruz.  The cause of the fire was not reported.  No reports of injuries.

On April 20, the 132 meter long, 4700 dwt tanker Inzhener Nazarov became stuck in the ice on the Volga River in the Saratov Reservoir, Russia. The Inzhener Nazarov was en route to Samara from Azov when it became stuck in heavy ice.  Unable to free itself, the vessel requested assistance. An icebreaker was dispatched from Rosmorport to break free the tanker. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
