On October 1, the 100 meter long tanker Aksaz C became disabled in the Atlantic Ocean off Brest, France. The Aksaz C was en route to Pembroke from Las Palmas with 3,000 tons of vegetable oil when it had suffered engine failure.   The tanker went adrift and requested assistance. A tug arrived later the same day and towed the Aksaz C to Brest. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On October 2, the 100 meter long tanker Stoc Marcia caught fire off Ronneby, Sweden. The fire started in the electrical system in the engine room. The vessel alerted authorities  while the crew evacuated the engine room and activated the fire suppression system.  The Skillinge lifeboat and a helicopter with local fire fighters arrived on scene a short time later.  After inspecting that the fire was completely extinguished, the fire fighters returned to Skillinge.  None of the 12 crew on board the Stoc Marcia were injured. The fire damaged the engine and the tanker required assistance.  The Swedish Coast Guard stood by until a tug arrived the following morning.  The tug and the Stoc Marcia proceeded to Landskrona.  No reports of pollution released.

The 180 meter long, 47941 dwt oil tanker Pacific Quartz ran aground in the harbour at Durban, South Africa. The tanker was proceeding with two pilots when it struck bottom off the North Pier in heavy swells reaching 6 meters in height.  The Pacific Quartz sustained damage to a ballast tank on starboard side resulting in water ingress.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. The South African Maritime Safety Authority has launched an investigation into the incident.
