On April 16, the 17 meter long  towboat Schubex 25 with a series of barges allided  with a bridge on the Elbe at Hamburg, Germany. The Schubex 25 had lowered its wheelhouse, but it struck the bridge as the towboat passed under it. The master of the Schubex 25 sustained slight injuries and was taken to hospital. The bridge was undamaged.  The Schubex 25 and the barges were pulled to Peute Port.

David Dunnigan

The towboat David Dunnigan capsized and sank on the Ohio River near Golconda, Illinois. The David Dunnigan was working near mile marker 897.5 on the flooded river when it flipped over and sank. No reports of injuries. The Coast Guard reports the vessel was swept downstream and its exact location was unknown. The David Dunnigan had some 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board at the time. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.

The tow boat Marrietta Hines with its 15 loaded coal barges allided with a bridge over the Cumberland River near Canton, Kentucky. The Marrietta Hines was headed upstream  when the second barge on the starboard side of the tow struck the pier of the Lake Barkley Bridge. The barge sustained damage and suffered water ingress. The Marrietta Hines pushed the damaged barge to shallow water near the bridge to keep it from sinking. The bridge was closed to traffic for an hour to be inspected for damage.  No reports of injuries or pollution released. The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
