On May 21, the 161 meter long, 17088 tanker Travestern ran aground on the St. Lawrence River (Lake St. Francis) near Cornwall, Ontario. The Travestern was headed to Montreal from Hamilton when it stranded on Lancaster Bar. Two tugs were dispatched to the scene and were able to refloat the tanker a few hours later. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

Authorities state the vessel was escorted to an anchorage near Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec where the tanker will be inspected for damage. The cause of the grounding was not reported.
