The 19.7 meter long tugboat Commando and the 17 meter long sailing vessel Sera sank on the Oude Maas near the Botlek Bridge at Hoogvliet.  The Commando was towing the Sera to a shipyard in Numansdorp when both vessels sank.  There was no one on the Sera, but the 2 crew on the Commando found themselves in the water.  A passing boat rescued the two crew.  Reports do not state which vessel sank first, but the assumption was the Sera was in poor condition and sank first and pulled the Commando down.  No reports of injuries.  Authorities dispatched a response team and divers to the scene.

On April 13, the 30 meter long tugboat Umhlali was struck by the 200 meter long, 21037 dwt car carrier CSCC Asia in Durban harbour, South Africa. The CSCC Asia was departing from Durban with a pilot on board when it veered forward and pinned the berthed Umhlali against the quay. The CSCC Asia sustained no damaged, but the Umhlali sustained damage. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The CSCC Asia departed the following day for Luanda. No further details reported.

On March 4, the 21 meter long tugboat Wilgum sprung a leak on the Mittelland Canal near Hannover, Germany. The leak was in the vessel’s engine room and overwhelmed the tug’s pumps. The local fire brigade was contacted and arrived with dewatering pumps. The firemen were able to pump out over 3 tons of water mixed with oil from the Wilgum while a temporary patch to seal the leak. No reports of injuries or pollution released.
