The 31 meter long tugboat Thomas Dann caught fire off Marineland near Jacksonville, Florida. The crew alerted the Coast Guard that the tug was on fire.  The crew was able to decouple the tug from the barge before the blaze  force the crew to abandon ship into the vessel’s life raft. The six crew were later picked up by a nearby fishing boat. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter to the scene and was monitoring the area until a fireboat from Jacksonville could arrive on site. No reports of injuries.

The 101 foot long, 192 gt tug Ocean Eagle and its barge under tow ran aground in the Seymour Narrows near Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada. The pair had touched bottom while en route to Alaska with the barge loaded with general cargo.  Reports state both vessels were later refloated.  They proceeded to Menzies Bay where they will be inspected for damage. No reports of injuries to the five people on board and no pollution was released.

The 84 foot long tugboat The Specialist allided and sank on the Hudson River near the Tappan Zee Bridge, New York. The tug was pushing a barge from Albany and was headed to Jersey City when it struck another barge moored at the construction site around the Tappan Zee Bridge.  The Specialist quickly sank after the allision. Reports state all three crew on board perished. Authorities searched the area and found one of the tug’s crewmen in the water, but the other two were still missing. Pollution was spotted around the sunken tug as the vessel had some 5,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board.
