A Greek Coast Guard vessel ran aground just off Aydin, Turkey.  The vessel had gone adrift after its engine broke down while on patrol. The vessel requested assistance with both Greek and Turkish Coast Guard coordinated rescue efforts. Six Turkish Coast Guard vessels along with an aircraft were dispatched to the scene. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 229 meter long, 80443 dwt bulk carrier Wadi Safaga went aground in an anchorage in the Sea of Marmara near Istanbul, Turkey. The Wadi Safaga had departed from Taman, Russia with a cargo of 57,750 tons of wheat bound for Alexandria, Egypt.  After the bulker passed through the Bosphorus, it was warned by authorities the vessel was passing too close to land. Ignoring these calls, the Wadi Safaga went hard aground.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Authorities requested a tug to help refloat the Wadi Safaga. Reports state the vessel had attempted to refloat itself but was unsuccessful.

The 98 meter long, 4828 dwt LPG tanker Gitta Gas became disabled on the Bosphorus Strait near Kandilli Point, Turkey. The tanker had suffered engine failure while en route to Temryuk, Russia and went adrift.  Tugs were dispatched to the scene and were able to tow the Gitta Gas to a nearby anchorage. The crew were able to make repairs and the tanker was able to continue on its voyage. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.
