On January 31, 2015, the 79 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry Gunesli ran aground in the Marmara Sea near Tatlisu, Turkey. The Gunesli had been at anchor off Bandirma when a storm approached from the southwest causing the vessel’s anchor to drag. The Gunesli drifted ashore. No reports of injuries or pollution released. No further details reported.

The 190 meter long, 19231 dwt bulk carrier Perth I became disabled on the Dardanelles, Turkey.  The Perth I was en route from the Ukraine with a cargo of corn when the vessel suffered engine failure. Authorities dispatched a tug to the scene where a towline was attached to the drifting bulker. The tug proceeded to tow the Perth I to a safe anchorage off Boğazı Kanarya Burnu. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

On January 14, the 89 meter long general cargo vessel Retaj caught fire while off Iskenderun, Turkey.  The Retaj was loaded with a cargo of hay which caught fire.  The 23 crew members on board abandoned ship  and safely rescued.  Fireboats pulled alongside the burning cargo ship and towed the Retaj to a nearby quay where local firefighters attempted to contain the blaze.  The firefighters were able bring the fire under control the following day assisted by rain and efforts of the fireboats. Damage to the Retaj left the superstructure scorched and cargo destroyed.
