The 58 meter long passenger ferry Kalamis collided with the 42 meter long passenger ferry Erdem Karadeniz in the Bosphorus near Haydarpasha, Turkey.   The two vessels collided head-on in dense fog.   Three passengers were injured.   Authorities dispatched several rescue boats to the scene.   The injured passengers were transferred to the rescue boats and taken ashore.   The remaining passengers were returned back to port.  No details provided to the damage either vessel sustained in the collision. Reports state that ferry service was suspended afterwards until weather conditions improved.

Sabret

Sabret

The 42 meter long ferry Sabret caught fire on the Marmara Sea near Istanbul, Turkey.  The Sabret was bound for excursion around the Prince Islands with 100 passengers when the fire broke out in the engine room.  The fire spewed out dense smoke.  The crew requested assistance with several rescue boats, a tug and a ferry responding.   The passengers and crew of the Sabret were transferred to the ferry Caddebostan.  The fire was extinguished a short time later.  Reports state several passengers suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Aquafortune

The 290 meter long, 174725  dwt bulk freighter Aquafortune went aground in the Black Sea near Zonguldak, Turkey.  The Aquafortune was maneuvering to enter the port when it ran aground into shallow water.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released. Authorities report the vessel is being inspected by divers and will be salvaged later.  The Aquafortune was en route to Zonguldak from South Africa with 150,000 tons of coal.
