MARQUISE

The 173 meter long freighter Marquise became disabled off Yeniköy, Turkey.  The freighter was en route to Piräus from Yuzhny with 25,667 tons of wheat when it lost power and went adrift.  The Turkish Coast Guard dispatched a lifeboat and two tugs to the scene.  The Marquise was taken under town and safely moored at Beykoz Bay.  No reports of injuries to the 23 crew on board.  No damage or pollution released.

The 114 meter long, 3509 dwt freighter Volgo-Balt 193 became disabled while passing through the Bosphorus near Kız Kulesi, Turkey.  The Volgo-Balt 193 had suffered a power failure and went adrift.   The freighter was taken under tow to an anchorage in the Marmara Sea.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  The Volgo-Balt 193 was en route Damietta, Egypt from Azov, Russia.

The 70 meter long, 1607 dwt freighter Anafarta went aground on the Black Sea near Riva, Turkey.   The Anafarta was approaching the entrance to the Bosphorus when the vessel reported it had suffered water ingress and was in danger of sinking.  The Anafarta was intentionally driven ashore to avoid sinking.  No reports of injuries and no pollution was released.    Authorities were notified and dispatched vessels to the scene.   Nine of the 12 crew on board abandoned ship and were later taken to Istanbul.  The Captain, Chief Engineer and another crewman remained on the vessel awaiting instructions from the ship’s owner.
