Werra

The 100 meter long, 4443 dwt freighter Werra became disabled while transiting the Bosphorus.  The Werra was en route to Constanta from Tuzla when it suffered engine failure.   The crew contacted the vessel traffic control which dispatched a tug and lifeboat to the scene.  The tug was able to take the vessel under tow and moored at Büyükdere.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 59 meter long, 1150 dwt freighter Pasha capsized and sank in the Marmara Sea near Narlı Köyü, Turkey.  The Pasha was headed to Casablanca from Istanbul with a cargo of plywood and containers when it suffered a heavy list after the cargo shifted in heavy seas.  The crew alerted authorities at the Dardanelles Vessel Traffic Center that the Pasha had a heavy list about 50 degrees to starboard.  Authorities dispatched a lifeboat and tug to the scene and took the nine crew off the Pasha and towed the vessel to a quay off Narlı Köyü.   The Pasha capsized and sank a few hours later with the deck containers sliding off the deck.   Authorities placed oil booms around the Pasha to contain any pollution released.

The 60 meter long, 3784 dwt freighter Erhan Araz went aground in the Bosphorus Strait near Beykoz, Turkey.  The Erhan Araz was going upstream from Diliskelesi to Novorossiysk with 3400 tons of steel when it suffered a steering malfunction.  The freighter’s rudder had failed and vessel ran ashore into a marina.   Several local fishing boats were damaged or sank.  No reports of injuries.  Tugs were dispatched to refloat the Erhan Araz.  No reports of pollution released.   Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
