On April 1, the 90 foot long fishing vessel Margaret Rose became disabled in the Atlantic Ocean some 40 miles off Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Margaret Rose had suffered a power blackout after its main engine failed. The crew requested assistance with the Coast Guard Cutter Dolphin responding. The Dolphin arrived on scene and took the Margaret Rose under tow. The two vessels proceeded to Cape May, New Jersey where the Margaret Rose dropped anchor.  Reports state there was no injuries to the seven crew on board, damage or pollution released.

On March 18, the fishing vessel Captain Joe became disabled some 110 miles off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Captain Joe had suffered a power blackout when its battery died. The crew was able to alert a nearby fishing vessel who relayed the request to the Coast Guard. A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched and was able to lower a portable marine radio. The helicopter returned and lowered a battery to the Captain Joe. The crew was able to restore power. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 22 meter long towboat Natalie Jean capsized and sank on the Mississippi River near New Orleans, Louisiana. The Natalie Jean was pushing a barge when it lost stability while making a turn in the river.  The towboat suddenly capsized spilling the crew member in the pilothouse into the river.  The nearby towboat Earl Gosling rescued the crew man from the water.  A short time later the Natalie Jean rolled over and sank.

Reports state two other crew members of the Natalie Jean were reported as missing.  The Coast Guard along with local authorities launched a search and rescue operation for the missing crew.

Traffic on the Mississippi River was halted around the area where the Natalie Jean sank. Reports state the towboat had some 600 gallons of diesel fuel on board when it sank.  The Coast Guard has launched an investigation into the incident.
