Miss Shauna

The 51 foot long fishing vessel Miss Shauna suffered water ingress while off Nantucket, Massachusetts.  The vessel had sprung a leak in the vessel’s engine room and the vessel’s pumps was able to keep up with the flooding.  However, the flooding began to increase and the crew requested assistance.  The Coast Guard dispatched the cutter Sanibel and a Jayhawk helicopter to the scene. The helicopter lowered a pump to the Miss Shauna. The cutter Sanibel arrived a short time later and escorted the Miss Shauna back to New Bedford. No reports of injuries or pollution released.

On April 21, the 82 foot long fishing vessel Northern Pride caught fire off Kodiak Island, Alaska. The vessel was proceeding to Seward when it caught fire off Marmot Island.  The three crew were unable to contain the fire and abandoned ship. The Northern Pride later capsized and was believed sunk. On May 7, the overturn hull of the Norther Pride washed ashore along the coastline of Katmai National Park in the Shelikof Strait. The Coast Guard spotted the overturn hull and reported an oil sheen around the wreck. A salvage company was hired to recovered and remove the hull.

On April 26, the fishing vessel Navigator became disabled while off Manasquan Inlet, New Jersey. The Navigator had sprung a leak and was taking on water. A nearby vessel reported to the Coast Guard that the fishing vessel was in trouble. A helicopter along with a 47-foot lifeboat was dispatched to the scene. The lifeboat brought two dewatering pumps to the Navigator which brought the flooding under control. The lifeboat escorted the Navigator back to Point Pleasant, New Jersey. No reports of injuries.
