The 180 meter long, 33717 dwt bulk freighter Eleni collided with the 162 meter long, 18181 dwt container ship Heung-A Dragon off Vung Tao, Vietnam.  The Eleni sliced into the port side of the Heung-A Dragon which quickly flooded, listed over and sank.  The 19 crew on the boxship were later rescued and taken to Vung Tau.  Reports state that 16 containers were recovered when they were lost overboard.  The Eleni was detained by authorities while an investigation continues into the incident.  No reports of injuries.

Bright Royal

The 179 meter long, 28259 dwt bulk freighter Bright Royal went aground off the island of Ly Son near Da Nang, Vietnam.  The Bright Royal was en route from Vung Ang bound for Bangladesh with 27,500 tons of clinker when it ran onto the rocks.  The freighter’s hull suffered two cracks and suffered water ingress.  No reports of injuries to the 24 crew on board.   Authorities have reported that fuel oil was released into the water from punctured fuel tanks.

Lam Hong 26

Lam Hong 26

The 56 meter long, 1024 dwt freighter Lam Hong 26 sank in the Gulf of Tonkin near Hai Phong, Vietnam.   The Lam Hong 26 had become disabled when its propeller had become entangled.   The vessel went adrift in heavy winds and developed a significant list.   The crew requested assistance with a rescue vessel responding.   All eight crew were safely rescued before the Lam Hong 26 sank.  The vessel was carrying iron ore from Nghe An to China.
