Huong Dien 09 Sunk

The freighter Huong Dien 09 capsized and sank in Ha Long Bay off Quang Ninh, Vietnam.  The Huong Dien 09 loaded with a cargo of coal became disabled after it’s engine failed.   The crew lost control of the vessel, but did not request assistance until the freighter began to have water ingress.   Authorities launched rescue craft to the scene, but the freighter capsized and sank before they could reach the nine crew on board.   Rescue boats have recovered three bodies and had continued search for the other six missing crewmen.

90406-TS Disabled

90406-TS Disabled

The fishing vessel Nguyen Dinh Tuan 90406-TS became disabled Qui Nhon, Vietnam (16-20N 113-00E).  The squid fishing vessel had suffered engine failure and went adrift.  The crew was unable make repairs when the master contacted authorities.  A Vietnam Naval vessel HQ-628 responded to the scene and took the fishing vessel under tow.  No reports of injuries of the 35 crew on board the 90406-TS.

Collision in Vietnam

The 71 meter long, 2437 dwt supply vessel Lewek Penguin collided with the 108 meter long, 7088 dwt  tanker Petrolimex off Vung Tau, Vietnam.   The Petrolimex’s hull was damaged leaving a four meter wide hole in one of it’s cargo tanks.  Over 343 metric tons of gasoline was released into the sea.  The Petrolimex was allowed to proceed to Nha Be Oil Port to offload the remaining 6538 metric tons of gasoline.  The Petrolimex had left Quang Ngai bound for Ho Chi Minh City before the incident.  Authorities are monitoring coastal areas for any pollution.   No reports of injuries.
