Ireen
The 110 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Ireen allided on the Rhine near Vogelgrun, Germany. The Ireen was proceeding northbound from Birsfelden in ballast when it approached the lock. As it entered the lock, the crew lost control and the tanker rammed the lock gates and wall. No reports of injuries or pollution released. Both the Ireen and the lock sustained severe damage. The lock was reported to be inoperable and the second lock had been taken out of service. The next day workmen were able to bring the second lock into service to allow ship traffic to continue.
