Samur 8 Aground

The 89 meter long, 1750 dwt freighter Samur 8 went aground on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal near the 126 kilometer mark.  Attempts to refloat itself failed and the freighter has requested assistance.  The Samur 8 was travelling from Astrakhan to Enzeli, Iran with a cargo of scrap.  No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Navy Tug Aground

The Russian Navy Auxiliary tug MB-58 went aground on the Volga-Caspian Sea Canal near the 125 kilometer mark.  Traffic on the canal was stopped until the MB-58 was able to refloat itself.   The tug continued under its own power.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Tanker Collision

Tanker Collision

The 6611 dwt tanker Grigoriy Bugrov collided with the fireboat PGK-638 in the VolgaCaspian Sea Canal near the 150 kilometer mark.  The PGK-638 struck the tanker in the port bow section.   The tanker’s hull had a 1.5 meter hole in the hull 3 meters above the waterline.   The fireboat had its railings bent and a life raft damaged.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.   Both vessels are heading to Astrakhan for further investigation.  The Grivoriy Bugrov had been originally scheduled to sail to Astrakhan, Russia from Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan with 5000 metric tons of heavy fuel oil.
