The 180 meter long, 33717 dwt bulk freighter Eleni collided with the 162 meter long, 18181 dwt container ship Heung-A Dragon off Vung Tao, Vietnam.  The Eleni sliced into the port side of the Heung-A Dragon which quickly flooded, listed over and sank.  The 19 crew on the boxship were later rescued and taken to Vung Tau.  Reports state that 16 containers were recovered when they were lost overboard.  The Eleni was detained by authorities while an investigation continues into the incident.  No reports of injuries.

Collision off Vung Tau

The 86 meter long, dwt 3582 freighter Truong Hai Star collided with the 188 meter long, 41213 dwt bulk freighter Krairatch Dignity near Vung Tau, Vietnam (10-26.16N 107-03.17E).    The Truong Hai Star quickly sank after the collision sending some 64 containers into the water and another 40 sunk with the vessel.  The 16 crew on the Truong Hai Star were later rescued.  The Krairatch Dignity proceeded to drop anchor at Vung Tau awaiting investigation by Authorities. Authorities have reported there has been oil released from the sunken Truong Hai Star.

Collision in Vietnam

The 71 meter long, 2437 dwt supply vessel Lewek Penguin collided with the 108 meter long, 7088 dwt  tanker Petrolimex off Vung Tau, Vietnam.   The Petrolimex’s hull was damaged leaving a four meter wide hole in one of it’s cargo tanks.  Over 343 metric tons of gasoline was released into the sea.  The Petrolimex was allowed to proceed to Nha Be Oil Port to offload the remaining 6538 metric tons of gasoline.  The Petrolimex had left Quang Ngai bound for Ho Chi Minh City before the incident.  Authorities are monitoring coastal areas for any pollution.   No reports of injuries.
