Collision in Vietnam

The 71 meter long, 2437 dwt supply vessel Lewek Penguin collided with the 108 meter long, 7088 dwt  tanker Petrolimex off Vung Tau, Vietnam.   The Petrolimex’s hull was damaged leaving a four meter wide hole in one of it’s cargo tanks.  Over 343 metric tons of gasoline was released into the sea.  The Petrolimex was allowed to proceed to Nha Be Oil Port to offload the remaining 6538 metric tons of gasoline.  The Petrolimex had left Quang Ngai bound for Ho Chi Minh City before the incident.  Authorities are monitoring coastal areas for any pollution.   No reports of injuries.

Grete Maersk

The 115,700 dwt boxship Grete Mersk went aground off the port of Vung Tau, Vietnam.   The Grete Mersk was attempting to enter the port with pilots on board when it grounded.   The vessel was not fully loaded after leaving Malaysia which should allow the vessel to be freed at the next high tide.   No reports of injuries or pollution being released.

Fishing Vessel BTR TS 93357 Sinks

Reports state the fishing vessel BTR TS 93357 has sank southwest of Vung Tau, Vietnam (09 05N 107 17E).   The BTR TS 93357 was fishing when it  began to sink.  The 7 crewmen on board were forced into the water.   One crewman was rescued by a passing squid boat.   The other 6 men are still reported as missing.
