Liberty

The 50 foot long, 13 ton fishing vessel Liberty ran aground on Whidbey Island, Washington. The Liberty had been reported unmanned and adrift for over a month before it eventually washed ashore on to the beach. Authorities found the fishing vessel had no fuel on board and no signs of pollution released. The Liberty will be pulled off the beach on the following high tide and be towed to Everett. Reports state the fishing vessel had been moored at Port Ludlow before it had gone adrift.

The 225 meter long, 76807 dwt bulk carrier Nenita ran aground on the Columbia River near Skamokawa, Washington. The Nenita had departed from Kalama fully laden with a cargo of grain when it suffered a power blackout and ran aground. The Nenita suffered damage in the forepeak resulting in water ingress. The crew was later able to bring the flooding under control and refloat the vessel. No reports of injuries. The Nenita was inspected and the bulk carrier proceeded to Kalama.  The Coast Guard conducted an overflight and found no pollution had been released.

The 60 foot long fishing vessel Pacific Rim sank off Westport, Washington. The Pacific Rim had struck a submerged object tearing a hole in the hull. Unable to control the water ingress, the Pacific Rim sent out a distress call. The Coast Guard responded quickly and rescued the single person on board. He was later taken to hospital for treatment for hypothermia. Reports state the Pacific Rim had some 250 gallons of diesel fuel on board.
