Beate

The 80 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Beate went aground on the Elbe River near Magdeburg, Germany.  The Beate was entering the basin of the canal when it went struck an embankment.   The Beate suffered hull damage with one cargo tank breached allowing one ton of diesel fuel to be released.    Local fire brigade responded to the scene and deployed containment booms around the Beate.  An environmental crew will later vacuum the diesel fuel from the water.  No reports of injuries.  The crew was able to make repairs with a temporary patch to the hull.  The water police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Dettmer Tank 87

Dettmer Tank 87

The 80 meter long self-propelled tanker-barge Dettmer Tank 87 collided with a 200 meter long barge on the Elbe-Seiten Canal near Vorhop, Germany.   The vessels collided head-on when the barge had veered onto the wrong side of the canal.    Both vessels sustained significant damage, but no reports of injuries to any crew on either vessel.   The Dettmer Tank 87 was loaded with 1200 tons of  diesel fuel, but no reports of any pollution released.   The water police had launched an investigation into the collision.  Reports state the estimated damage is over 100000 euros.

Warnow Jupiter

Warnow Jupiter

The 178 meter long, 33403 dwt freighter Warnow Jupiter allided with the lock gate on the Kiel Canal at Brundsbüttel, Germany.  The freighter under the direction of the canal pilot was taken under tow by two tugs to a nearby quay. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution reported.  The water police launched an investigation and found the master of the Warnow Jupiter was intoxicated and fined 2000 €.  The Warnow Jupiter was able to continue its journey from Rotterdam to Wismar later that day.
