West Oder 1

The 68 meter long self-propelled barge West Oder 1 allided with the pier at Brake, Germany.   The barge was attempting to berth when it struck the wooden pier causing damage to the pier and the vessel’s bow.  No reports of injuries.   The water police conducted an investigation and found the master of the West Oder 1 did not hold a certificate for sailing on the inland waterways and the vessel lacked the proper paperwork as well.   Reports state the master of the West Oder 1 will face prosecution.

The 105 meter long, 2040 ton self-propelled barge Anna Krieger suffered a fire in its engine room while carrying a load of scrap metal on the Neckar River near Pleutersbach, Germany.  The four crewmen made several attempts before they were able to extinguish fire.  The master of the Anna Krieger was able to steer the vessel to the nearby river bank.   The local authorities responded sending rescue boats from the nearby fire departments of Eberbach and Hirschhorn.  All four men were safely taken ashore as they were had suffered injuries from smoke inhalation.   The men were later taken to hospital for treatment.   The Anna Krieger was later towed to Eberbach.  The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.

Sagasbank

Sagasbank

The 89 meter long, 4500 dwt freighter Sagasbank allided with a pier on the Weser River at Brake, Germany.  The Sagasbank was attempting to berth when the master of the vessel made a navigational error and struck the pier.  The vessel’s hull suffered a small hole near a tank containing lubricating oil.   The pier also suffered damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released into the water.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.   The Sagasbank was detained in Brake until it can make the necessary repairs.
