Euphrates HIghway

The 199 meter long, 18668 dwt car-carrier Euphrates Highway allided with a quay in the Weser River at the locks at Bremerhaven, Germany.  The Euphrates Highway was being assisted by a tug when the towline snapped.  The port side of the car-carrier struck against the quay suffering minor damage to the vessel and the quay.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.   After inspection, the Euphrates Highway was allowed to proceed and departed for Zeebrugge.

Sagasbank

Sagasbank

The 89 meter long, 4500 dwt freighter Sagasbank allided with a pier on the Weser River at Brake, Germany.  The Sagasbank was attempting to berth when the master of the vessel made a navigational error and struck the pier.  The vessel’s hull suffered a small hole near a tank containing lubricating oil.   The pier also suffered damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released into the water.   The water police has launched an investigation into the incident.   The Sagasbank was detained in Brake until it can make the necessary repairs.

A self-propelled barge went aground on the Weser River near Verden, Germany.  Due to the low water level and the speed of the vessel, the ship struck a sand bank in the river.  The vessel lay perpendicular to the river for several hours until another vessel was able to free it.  No reports of injuries to the two crew on board, damage or pollution released.   The water police investigated the incident and allowed the vessel to proceed. The barge was loaded with some 1,000 tons of cement at the time.  The name of the vessel was no reported.
