On March 15, the 180 meter long, 25565 dwt bulk carrier Harriett ran aground in the White Sea off Mudyug Island near Arkhangelsk, Russia. The Harriett had departed from Arkhangelsk escorted by an icebreaker bound for Terneuzen with 20,000 tons of coal. As the vessels proceeded through the ice, the Harriett suffered engine failure and went adrift. The bulk carrier drifted with the ice into shallow water and went hard aground.  No reports of injuries. Reports state the Harriett requires lightering before it can be salvaged.

Tekhnolog Konyukhov

The 34 meter long, 49 dwt passenger ship Belomorye became disabled in the White Sea when the Belomorye’s main engine had failed.   The master of the Belomorye contacted the authorities which dispatched the salvage vessel Tekhnolog Konyukhov from Arkhangelsk.   The salvage vessel reached the scene while the crew on the Belomorye were able to restart the engine.   The two vessels continued to Arkhangelsk.   The passenger ship had 32 passengers and six crew on board.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.

Asteropa Disabled

Asteropa Disabled

The 2730 dwt freighter Asteropa reported it was disabled after its engine had failed while off Sosnovets Island in the White Sea.  The Asteropa had left Rotterdam bound for Arkhangel, Russia with a cargo of steel.  The crew is trying to fix the engine and has not asked for a tow.  However, the vessel is currently stuck in ice and an icebreaker was proceeding to free the Asteropa.
