On the morning of November 26, the 222 meter long, 37874 dwt container ship Chiquita Voyager (IMO: 9304978) caught fire on the Delaware River at the port of Wilmington, Delaware. The fire started in the container ship’s engine room  spewing smoke through the superstructure. The Chiquita Voyager engaged its fire suppression system which help contain the fire to the engine room. The Wilmington fire brigade arrived on site and got the fire extinguished after several hours. Four crew of the Chiquita Voyager sustained burns and would be taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Damage caused by the fire was not disclosed.  Fire fighters would remain on scene to monitor for any flare-ups.  State officials have launched an investigation into the incident.

The 199 meter long, 63046 dwt bulk carrier Sarocha Naree ran aground off Bald Head Island, Cape Fear River, North Carolina. The Sarocha Naree had departed from Wilmington heading out to sea when it grounded in the estuary at low tide. Two tugs were dispatched and were able to refloat the Sarocha Naree on the rising tide. The bulk carrier proceeded to a nearby anchorage for surveys. No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 33 meter long tugboat Miss Gill and the tanker-barge Delaware ran aground in Delaware Bay off Wilmington, Delaware. The tug and barge , loaded with 1.3 million gallons of asphalt, ran aground in the morning.  Authorities arrived on scene a short time later while the owners create a salvage plan.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.  Both vessels were later refloated.  The incident is under investigation.
