John D. Leitch aground on Lake Erie

The 734 foot freighter John D. Leitch ran aground on the muddy shoals at the entrance of outer harbor of Buffalo, New York. A few hours later with the help of tugs, the freighter was pulled free. The vessel was carrying 28,000 tons of road salt bound for Buffalo. No reports of pollution being released.

Tug Commodore Straits and barges aground

The 100-foot tug Commodore Straits ran aground on the St. Lawrence River near Alexandria Bay, New York. The tug was pushing 2 barges with a cargo of soy beans when it ran aground. Reports state both barges have taken on water, but no pollution was released.
