The 100-foot tug Commodore Straits ran aground on the St. Lawrence River near Alexandria Bay, New York. The tug was pushing 2 barges with a cargo of soy beans when it ran aground. Reports state both barges have taken on water, but no pollution was released.
The faroe coaster Havfrakt went aground near Gisundet, Norway. The coaster had a cargo of fish meal from Bergen. Attempts to free the vessel were not successful. Reports state no injuries or pollution released.
The ro-ro ferry Patria collided with the Malta mv tanker San Benedetto on the Kiel Canal near Schwarzenbek, Germany. The Patria hit the San Benedetto’s portside below of the main stack. The damage on the San Benedetto left a large hole on the portside. The Patria suffered some damage to the superstructure and a gash on the forepeak.
