The bulk freighter Nasco Diamond foundered north of the Batanes in the Philippines and south of Iriomote island, Japan. Three crewmen of the 25 onboard were rescued. They reported there was a sudden ingress of water near the engine room. This caused the vessel to capsize and quickly sink. Reports state that weather was calm, moderate seas and good visibility. Life rafts and traces of an oil slicked on the sea have been spotted, but no reports of finding other survivors. The bulk carrier left Indonesia bound for China with a cargo of nickel ore.
