Mecklenburg Sprung a Leak

The passenger ship Mecklenburg suffered water ingress while proceeding on the lower Elbe River.   The Mecklenburg with 23 passengers and three crew was on a trip from Berlin to Schwerin when a crew member discovered the engine room was flooded with water up to his knees.   The master contacted the Wittenberge fire service for assistance.  The fire service hooked up multiple pumps and discharged the water out of the engine room.   The fire service constructed a tempory basin to contain the waste water as oil and diesel fuel.   After serveral hours of pumping water, the leak was discovered to be a faulty valve.   No reports of injury and no pollution was released.

Collision at Houston

Collision at Houston

The 274 meter long tanker Naticina collided with a barge on the Houston Ship Channel.   The towboat Alliance was towing the barge, loaded with 20,000 barrels of xylene, when the barge struck the tanker.  The Naticina suffered damage to its hull with a breach to its stargobard ballast tank.   No injuries or pollution released.   Authorities are conducting an investigation and conducting surveys for damage.
