Somtrans IX Allision at Oberhausen

Somtrans IX Allision at Oberhausen

 

The 86 meter long tanker Somtrans IX allided with the Konrad-Adenauer-Allee Bridge on the Rhine-Herne Canal at Oberhausen, Germany.   The tanker sustained damage to its helm with the upper control booth being crushed against the bridge.  The tanker was able to continue under it’s own power to a nearby quay where it moored.   No one was injured.  The water police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident.

The 182 meter long, 8795 dwt pipe layer vessel Lorelay suffered a fire while berthed in Rotterdam, Netherlands.   The Rotterdam Port Authority vessels responded quickly and were able to contain the blaze.   The fire was in a control room below deck.   No one was injured.

Kate Aground

Kate Aground

The fishing vessel Kate went aground off the shore of Kaltene, Latvia.   The crew of the Kate were rescued by the Latvian patrol vessel Skrunda.   Another vessel has been assigned to monitor the Kate for any possible release of pollution.   The Kate had nine tons of diesel fuel on board when it went ashore.   Local and state authorities have been involved to prevent any pollution releases.   No reports of injuries.
