Fenja Disabled

Fenja Disabled

The 81 meter long, 2432 dwt freighter Fenja became disabled off Unst, Shetland Islands.   The Fenja’s engine had failed and the crew was unable to restart it.   The tug Anglian Earl was dispatched and took the Fenja under tow bound for Lerwick.   All of the 11 crew on board the Fenja were uninjured.

Collision in the Kiel Canal

Collision in the Kiel Canal

The 783 gt icebreaker Stettin collided with the 89 meter long, 3850 dwt freighter Richelieu in the northern lock of the Kiel Canal at Brunsbuettel.   The Stettin was attempting to moor when it struck the stern of the Richelieu.  The icebreaker suffered little to no damage while the freighter’s stern was dented.   Both vessels were detained for a short period and allowed to continue their voyage.  The Stettin was on route from Hamburg bound for Rendsburg.  The Richelieu was bound for Kaliningrad from Hamburg.   No reports of injury or pollution being released.

Sea Star Disabled

Sea Star Disabled

The 3605 dwt freighter Sea Star 1 became disabled off Plastun Bay in the Sea of Japan.   The vessel sent out a distress signal that the vessel’s engine has failed and was adrift.    The salvage vessel Lazurit was dispatched and will take the Sea Star under tow to Nakhodka.  The Sea Star 1 was sailing from Vanino to China with a cargo of 3600 qm of timber.   No reports of injuries.
