White Whale

The 43 meter long supply vessel White Whale sank off the coast Umm Al-Quwain, United Arab Emirates.   The vessel was overloaded with materials for other vessels and oil rigs in the area when it began to sink.  A nearby fisherman spotted the White Whale and contacted authorities.  Coast Guard and Police rescue craft reached the scene and rescued all nine crewmen on board.  No reports of injuries.  The vessel had been cited before for overloading and the crew were arrested.  The White Whale rests in 30 meters of water with some 450 tons of diesel on board.  Authorities have sent divers and are monitoring the wreck for any leakage.

Lisa Disabled

Lisa Disabled

The 110 meter long, 4179 dwt freighter Lisa became disabled while crossing the Bosphorus Strait.  The Lisa contacted Traffic Control Center who dispatched a tug to the scene.  The freighter was taken under tow to Gebze.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Arcturus

Arcturus

The 12 meter long trawler Arcturus became disabled near the entrance to the harbour of Eyemouth, Scotland.  The trawler’s engine failed and the master contacted Forth Coastguard.  The RNLI lifeboat from Eyemouth responded and took the Arcturus under tow into the harbour.  None of the three crew on board were injured.  The Arcturus was returning from a fishing trip before the engine failed.  No reports of damage or pollution being released.
