Knester

Knester

The 72 meter long, 2263 gt fishing vessel Knester went aground in the port of Sommarøy, Norway.  The Knester had just completed a trip in the Norwegian Sea with 1270 tons of herring on board when it attempted to enter the harbour and became stuck on a sand bar.  The fishing vessel emptied its ballast tanks and is awaiting the next high tide to refloat itself.   No reports of injuries, damage or pollution being released.

Captain Joe

Captain Joe

The 81 foot fishing vessel Captain Joe became disabled while off Cape Ann, Massachusetts.   The Captain Joe’s crew discovered that the vessel was taking on water with 6 feet in the bilge.  The crew contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.   The Coast Guard launched a 47-foot lifeboat along with a Jayhawk helicopter to the scene.  The helicopter reached the scene and lowered a dewatering pump to the trawler.  The lifeboat then escorted the Captain Joe back to Gloucester.   No reports of injuries of the four men on board the fishing vessel.

Olympic Javelin

The 75 foot fishing vessel Olympic Javelin became disabled off Montauk Point, New York.   The fishing vessel had suffered engine problems and went adrift.   The crew contacted the Coast Guard who sent the cutter Brainbridge Island out from Sandy Hook, New Jersey to the scene.   The cutter took the Olympic Javelin under tow back to Barnegat Light where another fishing vessel took the Olympic Javelin under tow back to port.   None of the four men on board were injured.  No reports of damage or pollution being released.
