Parnassos II

Parnassos II

The 97 meter long, 4470 dwt freighter Parnassos II ran aground near Itea, Greece.   The Parnassos II had just left the port of Saint Nikolas when it suffered engine failure causing the vessel to drift aground.   The crew requested assistance with a local tug responding.  The tug was able to refloat the freighter and proceeded to the Bay of Itea.   The Parnassos II dropped anchor in the bay awaiting inspection for any possible damage.   No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Bristol Bay Fire

Bristol Bay Fire

The 43 meter long United States Coast Guard icebreaker tugboat Bristol Bay suffered a fire while on the St. Clair River near Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.   The fire started in the Bristol Bay’s smoke stack while the vessel was conducting a training exercise.   The vessel dropped anchor while the crew sprayed water into the stack until the blaze was extinguished.  No reports of injuries and the vessel suffered only minimal damage.  The Bristol Bay primary responsibility is opening and maintaining shipping lanes in the Great Lakes.
