The fishing vessel Grim Reaper became disabled near Gloucester, Massachusetts. The fishing vessel had suffered water ingress to the high waves and heavy seas. The engine room became flooded causing the engine to fail. The crew contacted the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard dispatched the 40 foot lifeboat to the scene. The lifeboat took the Grim Reaper under tow and returned to harbour. No reports of injuries or pollution being released.
The 104 meter long, 2072 dwt freighter Alushta went aground on Onega Lake, Russia. The Alushta lost steering and veered out of the navigation channel. The 224 meter long, 74823 dwt bulk freighter Samatan ran aground at Gladstone, Australia. The Samatan was at anchor when it dragged allowing the freighter to drift onto a mud bank. The Samatan was later refloated the same day by the assistance of several tugs. The tugs towed the Samatan to deeper water where it was later inspected for damage. No reports of injuries or pollution being released. The Samatan had stopped at Gladstone to refuel after leaving Newcastle with a cargo of coal.
