The 59 meter long, 223 dwt passenger ship Atlantis suffered fire while at drydock in Kiel, Germany. The fire start from a welding torch in the engine room filling the compartment with dense smoke. The local fire brigade was called to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze. No reports of injuries. The amount of damage caused by the fire was not disclosed. The Atlantis was undergoing refit after being idle in Harburg.
The 97 meter long ro-roferryTrondheim ran aground near Krokeide, Norway. The Trondheim departed Austevoll with 72 passengers and five crew on a scheduled voyage. As the ferry was approaching the piers at Krokeide, it suffered engine failure. The vessel was unable to slow down so the master steered the Trondheim away from the piers to avoid an allision, but grounded on the opposite side of the waterway. Passengers reported a loud thud as the ferry struck bottom, but there was no panic on board. No reports of injuries or pollution released. The passengers were later safely evacuated. The ferry was later towed to the nearby quay. Divers were requested to make an inspection of the hull for any possible damage.
