Salvage operations may take up to 12 hours with the live stream continuing through September 17, 2013.   After the parbuckling procedure is completed, the salvage may continue for an additional month while crews prepare the vessel to be re-floated using the the giant buoyancy tanks welded onto her hull.

The 86 meter long self-propelled barge La Fosca went aground on the Rhine near Rettbergsaue, Germany.  The vessel was headed to Mainz from Schweinfurt with 1100 tons of rapeseed when it had to reduce speed and caught turned in the river current.   The vessel’s bow became wedged on a gravel bar.  After several attempts to refloat failed, another vessel was taken along side to lighter some of the cargo on board.  The following day the vessel was refloated.  The La Fosca proceeded to Mainz.  No reports of injury, damage or pollution released.
