The 67 meter long self-propelled barge Risico collided with a dredge on a canal near Buitenkaag, Netherlands.  The hull of the Risico was damaged with a 30 cm hole above the waterline.  No reports of injuries.  The Risico’s fuel tank was ruptured and the vessel released 1000 litres of diesel fuel into the canal.  A 900 meter long sheen developed around the vessel before the leak could be patched.   Authorities placed booms to contain the pollution.  Clean up efforts should take a few days to complete.

The 146 meter long ro-ro passenger ferry went aground near the pier in Digby, Nova Scotia. As the ferry approached the terminal, the vessel lost power and drifted aground just 200 meters from the dock.  No reports of injuries to the 59 passengers and crew.  The Princess of Acadia was able regain power and later assisted by a tug to the pier.  Divers inspected the hull and found no damage.
