The fishing vessel Shawn and Gary found itself in dire condition off Liverpool, Nova Scotia.  The Shawn and Gary had just started fishing a few hours after lobster season started when it suffered a leak and began to sink.  The two crew on board sent out a distress call before having to abandon ship into the vessel’s life raft.  The two men were quickly rescued by the nearby fishing boat Patty and Andy.  No reports of injuries.  The Canadian Coast Guard vessel G. Peddle arrived on scene a short time later.  The Shawn and Gary was last reported as submerged with just a small portion of the bow above water.  The cause of the sinking was not reported.

The 123 meter long, 1104 dwt ro-ro passenger ship Nordkapp allided with the dock at Hammerfest, Norway. The vessel had made a hard landing with the aft hull was dented, but there was no punctures.  No reports of injuries to passengers or crew.  The vessel was detained until repairs could be completed.  The Nordkapp  was able to proceed under its own power to Kirkenes.

Ocean Countess

The 167 meter long passenger ship Ocean Countess caught fire while berthed at the Chalkis Shipyards at Halkida, Greece.  The fire started on the upper decks of the vessel where materials had been stored.  The fire quickly grew beyond the control of the five crewmen aboard the cruise ship.  Local fire brigades were requested who dispatched multiple crews to the scene.  Multiple fire tugs also assisted fighting the blaze while other tugs moved other vessels which had been tied up close to the Ocean Countess.  No reports of injuries.

Reports state booms had been placed around the Ocean Countess as a precautionary measure.  The cruise ship had been laid up since 2012, but had been expected to return to service in 2014.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
